XPRIZE's Donor Privacy Policy

XPRIZE does not sell, trade, or share our donors’ names or personal information with any other organizations, nor do we send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations.

This policy applies to all information received by XPRIZE, both online and offline, on any platform, as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications.

To the extent any donations are processed through a third-party service provider, our donors’ information will only be used for purposes necessary to process the donation.

You may access our online privacy policy here.

XPRIZE uses personal identifiable information from donors that is collected at several points on our website and in other communication with us, including: name, address, telephone number, email address and donor comments when a donor voluntarily provides such information to us. When a donor pledges money as a donation, XPRIZE requests certain personally identifiable information from the donor subject to XPRIZE’s privacy policy. Donors must provide contact information and financial information. This information is used for billing purposes and to fulfill donations.

In addition, a record is kept of each donor’s giving history. Donor information is stored on an XPRIZE donor management database. Access to the database is restricted to personnel with a legitimate business need to access or modify the information contained therein. This information is kept on file for IRS purposes and is also used for gift acknowledgment and mailing lists.

Federal Law requires the IRS to collect "the names and addresses of all substantial contributors" (typically, those who contribute $5000 or more)to tax-exempt organizations. The filing requirement is intended to allow the IRS to ensure that organizations receiving tax breaks are legitimate charitable organizations. The law also reflects concerns that rich donors could use nonprofits to funnel unlimited contributions to political causes. Although they must report donor names to the IRS, most tax-exempt organizations are not required to publicly disclose those names.

California and New York, however, require non-profits to file copies of their IRS donor reports. The states do not intentionally disclose these reports to the public, but the lists can become public through data breaches or insider misbehavior.

XPRIZE does not sell, trade, rent, or share names, addresses, telephone numbers, or email addresses of our donors. XPRIZE will use donors’ contact information (email, telephone numbers, or addresses) of donors for the following purposes:

● Produce receipts for donations;

● Acknowledge donors for their contributions;

● Inform donors about news, upcoming events and activities, and other information relevant to donors (when information is sent utilizing a mailing service, the companies we employ have access only to the personal information needed to perform their functions);

● Internal analysis and record keeping;

● If necessary, reporting to relevant U.S. agencies;

● As a means of recognizing support, XPRIZE may occasionally publish names of donors in various newsletters, brochures and both online and print publications.

If a donor prefers their name not be published, or if a donor has any questions or concerns regarding the privacy policy, please contact the Stakeholder Relations Department at [email protected]. Donors may request to review and change their personal information at any time.

Donation Processing

Donations are processed through third-party providers. They store all the personally identifiable information on their servers since they are PCI compliant. All the transactions appear to be secure and are independent of the XPRIZE servers.
