Dr. Shlomy Kattan is Chief Advancement Officer and former Executive Director of the $7M Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE presented by Dollar General Literacy Foundation, which aims to improve access to adult basic education and English as a second language instruction for low-income, low-skilled adults in order to decrease economic inequality.  

An entrepreneurial, mission-driven strategic leader, Dr. Shlomy Kattan has been leading organizations at the intersection of technological innovation and life-long learning for two decades. Dr. Kattan’s mission is to foster more opportunities for individuals to reach their greatest potential. He achieves this by working closely with distinguished business leaders; Federal, State, and local policy makers; and prominent industry experts to shape the future of learning and workforce development. 

Prior to joining XPRIZE, Dr. Kattan was Co-founder and CEO of Kudo!, an award-winning education technology startup which he led through successful fundraising rounds to become the leading children’s language education app in five LatAm markets. Dr. Kattan was previously a Consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, one of the world’s premier strategy consulting firms. Prior to joining BCG, Dr. Kattan had a ten-year career in both traditional and tech-enabled education. 

Since 2016, Dr. Kattan has served as Board Chair of seven schools in the Alliance College-Ready Public Schools network, the largest charter school network in Los Angeles and larger than 75% of all school districts in California. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the P.I.E. Challenge, a first of-its-kind competition to promote personalized learning solutions in high school math classrooms.  

Dr. Kattan holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a Wenner-Gren Foundation Fellow. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children. He has lived and worked in the United States, Israel, Brazil, Chile, and Ecuador, and speaks seven languages.
